Trail To Transformation – Focus on Personal Mental and Physical Health

Vacation gives you a chance to step back, and give your mind, body and soul a break. Sometimes a vacation can be transformational especially when we find ourselves stuck. We keep pushing forward when we plainly just need a break. We must keep focusing ahead, but giving ourselves downtime to reflect can help find our bigger picture or our one big thing.

Adventure travel is about exploring a new location, but imagine yourself taking a journey to find a new inner perspective. Focusing on your personal mental and physical health is mandatory to keeping life in balance. Listen to your body, and it will tell you what it needs. Sometimes we need the aid of a physician, but don’t let issues metastasize until it’s too late. Physical and mental health problems can sometimes be related to work or personal life issues. Once those issues have been resolved, your health may improve.

Here are a few ways to stay in tune with your body:

  1. Focus On Your Abilities

We sometimes focus in our weaknesses and forget that we have inherent strengths to pull from. After 15 plus years in the field of recreation, I have seen many pull from their strengths to become successes. Use what you have and hone it. It’s ok to spend time honing weaknesses, but think about the success you will have honing your strengths. Starting with this Strength Finder book is a good way to go.   1. Let Food Be Your Medicine

I will be the first one to admit that I love binging on French fries more than anyone, but I try not make it habit to eat them. Having to let go of wheat and dairy years ago, has left me to be more mindful about food. I focus on what I put into my body and listen to what it tells me and feel better for it. Fruits and veggies are always the best option, and do the heart good. It goes without saying, “you are what you eat” and eat what makes you feel good! Stay away from processed and fast foods.

  1. Spend Time In Nature

Spending time in nature is like going to church for me. I find answers to my problems, along with a sense of peace and balance. Prescribe yourself a walk in nature at least once a week. Consider it like popping a nature pill as your mental and physical medicine. The Japanese call it Forest Bathing and can improve your mood, lower blood pressure and increase your energy levels.

The magic of feeling good happens when we slow down and listen deeply to what our mind, body and soul are telling us. In our busy world of digital devices, planes, trains and automobiles it leaves us with little to no time to give our brains a break.
